Disaster by DVeditor Disaster by DVeditor
Created this for the Terraspace contest run by =environaut - you can see his original render we all start with here. I took his Terragen render and played with it off and on for a few days in Photoshop, never tried something quite like this before but I think it came out fairly well. :)

I actually did two versions of this but didn't submit the other one. If you'd like to see what else I toyed with please take a look!

As always any comments, constructive criticism, or other feedback is appreciated! :D

Enjoy!

Nice job on the fine-rayed Sun. And the Terragen part came out realistic too !

Many thanks for the comments - this one was definitely a "learning" piece in a way that I knew a few things not to do on the next pieces. ;) I appreciate you stopping by!

Made the flames and such by hand - lots of distorted layers and blending modes. ;) Thanks for the comments!

oooo... it's so hyperkinetic... it conveys so much action and energy... the planets have unique and interesting texture discernable in spite of being mostly in the shadow, the star field seems choked with dull, distant and pervasive matter... not quite luminous for nebulae, but it does give the sky an interesting over all texture... the intense sky makes a strong contrast to the stark stillness of the terrain...

 you're very welcome... I see a lot of space terragen that tries to perfectly emulate Alyn's work, and does so very well, but I really enjoy seeing someone expressing their own style, and your's has a lot of qualities normally found only in conventional painting... where the materials and medium add character to the illustration... here, the technique you've developed gives the same effect. As you move on and master other techniques, do keep a hold of some of these... I think they'll serve you quite well...

Wow, this is really great! I just love the planet, with the shockwave and everything. The only thing that could be better is maybe the trail of the comet.
